What the court heard
He was found guilty of murder in Crawley Down, West Sussex, on 22 December 2019. He claimed to have been suffering from a mental health breakdown when he killed a 76-year-old woman and his 32-year-old wife. The judge found that he had experienced a psychotic episode after taking illegal drugs (a psychoactive substance). The judge said: "I sentence you on the basis that you took a new psychoactive substance and under the influence of this committed these murders. Anyone who takes new psychoactive substances, which are Class A drugs, is interfering with their own mental processes and responsible for the consequences."
